Summary

We are looking for a Custodian to join the City of Charleston's Public Service Department! In this role, you will keep facilities and surrounding areas in clean and orderly condition for visitors, tenants and/or rental customers.

Examples of Duties

• Dusts, sweeps, mops, scrubs, and vacuums all floor space, porches, stairs, walls, duct and beam work, exhibit structures, overheads and restroom fixtures.
• Waxes and buffs historic wood flooring in facilities, following specified maintenance schedule.
• Cleans windows and other glass as necessary.
• Polishes and maintains brass fixtures, wood trim, and other surfaces.
• Replaces light bulbs in fixtures, overheads, and exhibit structures.
• Empties trash and garbage containers.
• May clean debris from sidewalk.
• Notifies management concerning need for repairs or additions to the facilities.
• Responds to questions from visitors, tenants and rental customers regarding the facility and general information.
• May perform detailed cleaning of facilities following rental events.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

• High school education or GED; and 6 months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
